Summer is just around the corner, and with it comes the traditional scientific conferences. This summer, I ended up skipping on Cool Stars 23, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan. I would love to be there, but it was a bit difficult to justify it given that I already have two consecutive conferences in Europe and this would add a third one. I’m the kind of traveler that starts getting homesick around the 10th day away, so three weeks is too much for me. However, my STScI colleague Hannah Diamond-Lowe will be there to give a talk about the Rocky Worlds DDT program, so go have a chat with her if you’re attending Cool Stars this year.
As I said, I will be attending two summer events this year:
- The Evaporating Worlds workshop, which will take place in Sexten, Italy, between June 22 and 26. This is an invite-only workshop uniting about 45 experts in the topic of Atmospheric Escape. I am very excited about this topical event because we can really get in the weeds of our science and attempt to get some of the most complicated problems solved – and I emphasize that it’s truly an attempt!
- The Exoplanets 6 conference, which will happen in Porto, Portugal, between June 29 and July 3. This is an event that has actually become perhaps a bit too large and it’s truly difficult to follow all the talks that we may want to attend. However, I decided to go anyway because I will be there mostly to network with folks and see some old friends. Also, I love Porto! If you see me there, don’t be afraid to say hi.
And that’s about it for my summer conference going. After these, my next events will actually take place in my home country of Brazil, in November.
